Inđija
It
is situated at crossroads of Belgrade and Novi Sad. It has 23000
inhabitants. Agriculture, processing of wheat, fruit and vegetable
canning are developed. Leather and metal industry take an important
place. There are several secondary schools and a library. There
are many finds of mineral and healing spring water. The well-known
resort with mineral spring is in Stari Slankamen, and also hunting
and fishing.

Irig
A little
town on the slopes of Fruška Gora with 4500 inhabitants. It is well-known
by its orchards, vineyards and wine cellars. Irig has a rich cultural
tradition and the first Serbian library is situated there. The traditional
manifestations are: Dositej's days, Pudars's days and others. Monasteries
in Fruška Gora are very important.

The
only village which is community in Srem. It has 2500 inhabitants.
It is agricultural area where cattle raising is very important.
In the latest years truck farming is developing and especially growing
of melons. The biggest factory is factory for sugar processing.

Ruma
Ruma is
situated in the center of Srem, precisely at 45 of geographical parallel.
It is an usual panonian town with beautiful streets where 30000 inhabitants
live. Agriculture is developed with many orchards. There are mill
industry, vegetable canning, rubber industry processing of leather
and plastic. There are many secondary schools, a museum, two cultural
societies with tradition. A traditional tamburitza Festival is held
every year.

Sremska
Mitrovica
It
is the biggest town in Srem with 40000 inhabitants. It is situated
in a rather beautiful geographical place. It was built on the remains
of the ancient Antic town Sirmium. Sirmium was one of the capitals
of the Roman Empire. Administratively, Sremska Mitrovica is the
agricultural and cultural center of Srem. Beside husbandry there
are orchards and cattle raising which are very important. There
are also industries for processing of wheat, corn and milk and meat
packing. Processing of lumber is specially developed as much as
processing of paper and metal complex and shipyard. There are many
secondary schools, a museum, a theater, historical archive, a gallery
and a library. The important sights from Roman period, monasteries,
hunting and fishing are a great touristical offer of this area.

Stara
Pazova is the community center nearest to the capital Belgrade.
It is connected to Belgrade by economy and culture. It has 18000
inhabitants. Agricultural, mill, metal and textile industries are
developed. Handicrafts and private offices are very important in
complete developing of economy. There are many secondary schools
and it has a long sport tradition.

Šid
A small
colorful town with 15000 inhabitants. It is situated on the slopes
of Fruška Gora. Šid is the west-most community of Srem. It has orchards
and vineyards area with a huge vine cellars. Processing ow wheat
is developed. Modern meat packing industry and oil cooking factory
is situated here too, such as textile industry. It has an interesting
potential for hunting and fishing. The memorial house and the Gallery
of famous painter Sava Šumanović is situated in the center of the
town.
